FREE courses are going to be available beginning this morning.

The goal of the courses are simple.

For anyone, any age to join in and learn to access their imagination through step by step projects and tasks. Any item created has potential for posting. You may not like your finished project, but a particular part of the project you might have thoroughly enjoyed, and enjoyed the results of. That is a contender for publishing on the "Imagination Courses" bog.

Now, I'll bet you will be amazed and surprised at the results you achieve. Excitedly so. You will have the ride of your life, making things, using your imagination in ways you never considered, and in turn, your ability to access more of your imagination will contribute to the way you live your life.

Usually you will have the materials around to make something. Artist, beginner to advanced, adults, man, woman, and child. Regardless where you are in life right now, you will be able to participate. All you need is 10 minutes, and not necessarily all in one lump.

Projects can be a ten minute project, as easily as a 10 year project. It all depends on you. How fast do you want to go? Having fun and want to build on this? Go for it. Having too much fun, and just don't want to stop? Have too much of that, and found a fabulous way to get rid of it...creatively?

All skill levels are applicable. It doesn't require anything special to create something incredible. When you do, you will be able to see each step along the way. Hopefully, others doing the projects will submit images of their imagination made visible (at any step along the way), and you will see how they did the same exact thing with spectacular differences. Most of the time you will recognize the materials used, or that information can be posted.

The main thing about these courses is you may jump in and out as desired, never sign in, never do anything else, if you don't want to.

However!

And this is a big however too. You will find once is just never enough at least through one of these devotions of ten minutes of your time.

Projects will be noted by the title of the step. Steps will be mix and matchable through the projects. If you are new and want to do some of the previous projects, feel free to skip all over. I do mean skip too. Smile, breathe slower and deeper. Relax your shoulder muscles, set your posture correctly, and get comfortable. You will enjoy it all much more.

Now how would I know these things? I've been making, or dreaming of making things, seeing how someone else made them, for 52 years. I've never stopped. If I do, my pulse might have too. I have never learned to separate the creative part of me, for the other parts. My veins flow with a lot of blessings of imagination. I love to get others excited about creating also, and seeing the results takes my breath away. That is nothing compared to the looks on their faces and the satisfaction evident in their lives.

This is why these courses through your imagination are free. I know using your imagination will be so beneficial to all your life, you will want to find another ten minutes to have another imagination time out. Come play with us.

Biding Time is a quick little sketch, done several years ago. I was waiting for the next rodeo event, when this fellow came to sit in front of me. It took thirty seconds to get the pen and ink in place. Later the watercolor was added. The date on the piece is when the ink was done. The watercolor was added in 2006. It is approximately 6x8", on paper, and is available from the artist for $350.

Tea and Roses was taken at Primrose & Fine Lace, a tea room in Buda Texas. Buda may not be well known yet. It is a small town, just south of Austin on IH 35. If you are wandering through the area, I highly recommend it. My quiche was delicious, and I make of point of stopping every time in the area. Tell them I recommended the place, if you do stop by. You will enjoy everything there.

Russian River

If you drive north on Hwy 101, formerly Hwy 1, north of San Francisco, you can come across the Russian River pouring into the Pacific Ocean, as I did in 2006 (not the first time). If you do not know about the history of the place, it is the most southern outpost Russia had on the Pacific Coast. The true tales of the region fill books and imaginations to this date. It is an ever changing vista.

The Neighbor's House

The graphite on paper piece leaves much to the imagination, and almost resembles an abstract. When you know what your are looking at though, it becomes quite clear. This is exactly what I was looking at, out my front door, while pencil and paper were at hand.

The title tells the viewers what they cannot quite understand. This is the house across the street, on Skeeter Lane, at Wallops Island. A NASA runway is just beyond the bank of dark trees, which blend with the garage roof of the neighbor's house. The neighbor's house is the light triangle on the right. It is actually their garage front, above the double garage door. The dark triangle, among the tree branches, and below the rain gutter, is our garage roof, and the tree right outside the bedroom window.

Watching the spring bloom move in the breezes, along with the confiers across the street, was very relaxing. It is hard to imagine the ocean is so incredibly close, when there is no evidence in this rendering. The falcons, like the one drawn below, were always cruising thermals in the area, and enrichened this artist's life. Wallops Island is a bird sanctuary, within a region of bird sanctuaries.

Falcon

As you can see, I am accessing my graphite drawings this morning, to add to this blog. It's 5am, and too early to begin making a fresh work.

This falcon was done on archival draffting vellum, with graphite. It is approximately 30x24", and was damaged. I am looking forward to redrawing it, and curious as to which drawing media he will be in next. As with the images posted yesterday, many versions will be available through my lifetime.

The next time this fellow gets done, it will be on a large scale. This image is a second rendering of this piece, and it was done while I lived in Pocomoke City MD. At Rest 2

At Rest 2 is the first drawing of March 2007. It is colored pencil on paper, 8x5.5". This little bird keeps crawling in and out of my sketchbooks. It was originally inspired by a glass vase, seen over and over in art publications. Since then, it continues to morph in color and position, without loosing his charm. Not only was it intended to portray a bird at rest, but set our personal spirits at rest. I found in watching people see the original, their spirits became obviously more at rest. I hope I haven't posted this photo before. It is a statue in a park, next to the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria VA. In 2001 an unexpected snow storm blew in, in early November. While my husband and friends were busy throwing snowballs, I was snapping photos. Noesis is the result. Do you wonder what it means? Look it up in your dictionary to get the full meaning of the piece. It was in a professional photography competition, and my favorite comment was, "How did you get the green in there?" This is another studio piece, created in class at the University of Hawaii Manoa painting studios. Instructors often provide still lifes for the students to work on. For me, it is a pleasant time to relax and upgrade skills through practice. This piece came out wonderfully. It is oil on gessoed paper, highly archival, and is available from the artist for $350. Do I Have a Future?

Animals are much preferred to portraits of people for me. The situation all paciderms face is extinction. Concern for this matter promted the drawing. This pen and ink is huge, about 30x48", on heavy archival paper, and is all done without any preliminary drawing. Shi Shi's Red Ball

Sometimes when I go to the zoo, it is purely to draw and enjoy the animals. For awhile, the San Diego Zoo had Shi Shi in a parenting program, to increase the number of Pandas in the world. This was in conjunction with a program in China, to do likewise. Panda's are quite cooperative, and stay still long enough to draw them. This is a pen&ink and colored pencil. It is about 9" square.

This is about a 20x24", colored pencil on paper drawing. It is part of a private collection in Canada. The detail in the eye was fun to do, easy, and definately something to zoom in on. Enjoy.

The Offering

This is an expanded view of The Offering, which I shared with y'all a few days ago. In the other journal entry, I mentioned there were three pointing digits, and here you can see that. Zoom in and see the calligraphic lines. Notice how they seem to be like rivers? This is contour drawing, and I love it. As the shape of each finger is defined, you can see the change in color. We artists call that hue. All the fingers are mine. I drew my left hand first.

The figure in the middle came from remembering game pieces I loved to hold. I could not draw their copyright images, and ethics are a big deal with me, so the playing piece metamorphisized into a person, and the story became clear. In went the other fingers.

Regardless of who you are as the viewer, one of these fingers are yours. Which one? Are you happy with that choice? If not, change it.

We as human beings are always offering up of our selves. Sometimes, it isn't our best. Sometimes it is. I am going to enlarge the playing piece, as I believe it is important to offer ourselves up to the world in a bold and confident way. This is easier when you do the best you can. The result is the belief in the move being the best possible. Regardless of others' opinions, they are not always options. Knowing the difference is key to succeeding more quickly.

I really look forward to some of the positive ways this piece interacts with the viewers, at this state, and when I finish it.

but for the Llamagoddess

One of my best friends is another fine artist, Kathleen McLeod. She raised llamas at one time, and this little darling is one of her darlings. Just as the lips imply, kisses are important. Kathleen even designed a card cartooning the gifts of llamas. It is a riot. You should see her work too. I'll get the website on here asap, but in the mean time, use your favorite search engine, and check her out. She is equally as eclectic, and you never know what you will see.

Oh, details about this piece: 10x6", pen&ink and colored pencil on paper, not for sale. If you really want to see something, zoom in and check out the lines. I worked with a .005 nib. Wait until you see the huge rhino I did with the same size nib. These two media work well together in my hand, which makes it a joy and not a job to create lots of things.

Delaware Landmark

In Delaware, our first state, in its first city, this is the roof and cupola of the first building. Today it serves as a fire house. This is the first official government building in the USA, from what I remember. It actual served as a meeting spot for the first sitting of the Continental Congress. It is part of a series of roof pieces. So many roofs have such distintive characteristics.

Noesis is a limited edition fine art photo available to fine art photography collectors. Noesis comes from the Greek for understanding, and noein, to percieve. This maiden could be almost any kind of female, angel, singer, philosopher, mother, etc. The sudden on set of a blizzard in the area, Alexandria VA, near the Torpedo Factory, provided the stunning moment captured here, and highlights the artist's work in this creation.

Who ever created the statue, is an unknown artist to me. One of the finest of the printed images will be kept on reserve for that artist. When the name of the sculptor is known, their handiwork will receive due acknowledgement.

I AM My Brothers' Keeper

This watercolor is a reminder of what a wise, old woman told me once. She said women have traditionally been the keepers of memories. Over many centuries, with exception, it has been the men who went off to fight battles. For those who returned in part, changed, or not to walk the earth again, the women would relate the life stories to the remaining family members and friends. Through this means of story telling, the memories of these people are kept alive. This is how the title of this piece came to be. I AM My Brothers' Keeper.

I have to uphold centuries of tradition, and maintain the memories of others I know. Many of my "brothers" went off to fight in battles. Some came home in various states. Even if they came home, unwelcomed, they may not have recovered, and may never.

In this image, you will see the soldier in the foreground is carrying equipment of two soldiers. Did the unpictured soldier return to a good life, or something else? Each viewer can react to this piece based on their own personal history.

The image is large, 23x14", is not for sale. In memory of all MIAs and POWs, it will be donated to a museum about MIAs and POWs. This is done at the request of former POW, Ken Khoellermeier (spelling uncertain), to whom I offered the piece. He asked it be donated in memory of those who gave so much, some eternally. Beginnings

The close up of this piece has many potent messages. There are three fingers directed at the hand. This is just a beginning of what this will become, an idea germinating. I think it would be good in a phychologist's office. The piece is about 24x20" in this beginning. Sometimes they get cropped for the benefit of the image and to refine the final fine art piece. After all, it is about doing the best possible creation.

Oro de Taos

This piece is in The Best of Colored Pencil 2 (Rockport Press), on page 67. The image is not as clear as the drawing, as it was under glass when photographed. If you are interested in purchasing the piece ($1500), please ask for the piece to be unframed and rephotographed. It is colored pencil on paper, 7x9.5" in image size.

Oro de Taos enthralls every viewer. It began with the adobe drawn in bright lemon yellow. Over this were layered the other colors the artist saw. Oro de Taos has a glow about it, which the viewer does not realize comes from this yellow source underneath.

Adobe and mud earth structures are some of the artist's favorite subjects. There are always new pieces about these structures being created. Some of the best are yet to come.

Unseamly

This is a colored pencil drawing on Fabrianno. When you zoom in on the image, you will see some very interesting marks. This is the first in a series about lava. The only hint of the volcanoe's solid structure is in a fine line of black almost in the center. The moss green color of the paper not only compliments the colors in the pencil work, but it also allows the viewer to determine what time of day or night, what season, etc., the lava is flowing in. This is a very meditative aspect to indulging in time seeing the piece. The pencil rendering will also continue to reveal hidden secrets, and offer hours of satisfaction of seeing.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short

This is a small art quilt, 16x18", and is available for $75. As you can see, one fish is swimming perhaps a bit too close to the fishing net, while another has fallen behind the school, and now rushes to catch up. Over fishing the waters of this earth is a serious issue, rarely considered by most. This school is not caught yet, but the possibility remains. What will be eat tomorrow, if they are caught to the extent they cannot regenerate?

It must be getting addictve, because she has done another. Isn't it a beuat? It isn't here yet, but it is on the way.

If you don't want to make a hole in the top center, imply one. An easy way to do this is with a button, an itty bitty yo-yo, or by the large knot created with the strings (threads and yarns).

I am looking forward to making and recieving some more of these. Everyone who includes a SASE gets theirs back.

The Art Quilt Label Grows

As you can see by this image, the art quilt label continues to be in progress. I have a fuzzy lime green thread, which will meander of the triangles, and circle around the hole. For the hole, I am going to use a white plastic curtain ring, and buttonhole stitch over that, probably in orange. There are 3 triangles to finish here, the hole, and the "strings". Of course, I need my information on the back. It's a bold batik yellow, from the same fabric. This is closer to the true colors.

Journaling

Here are three ideas to play with for art quilts. The top image is called Peanut Butter and Jelly. It has a bit of a knife showing in the upper left, but only enough to give a hint. The second image was called Lemon something or other, only I forgot the second word. It will come back to me. It could be hung horizontally or vertically, and will require two sleeves. The bottom image is not a vase, but just a doodle. It would look better in multiples, every other one inverted. The note reminds me to multiply the original idea by 3, 5, or 7 times.

At least I have journaled something new. I have other ideas too, to add. Wouldn't it be neat to do a series of mini quilts, to look like homemade stamps, with art in mind? I will be looking into this idea throughout the year. Better get back to work creating some of these things. There are bound to be several more ideas on their heels.

There is a 4x4" colored pencil on hardboard. The hardboard is heavily, and archivally sealed. I haven't learned how to create color corrections. The background is more limey. The sliver of color on the sphere is bright orange. This piece is available for sale, from the artist, at $100+sh.

"Winter" Ostrich Egg

Gourd Art

This is a gourd I grew and then used colored pencil on. I watched this horn bill many times, and was a favorite at the aviary. Now he will live forever on this piece. The black feathers on top are the same color as the feathers on his back. His looked more coarse. This piece is 6"Hx7"Dx8"W. It is available for $75+sh. Fiber Vase

This is what happens when an artist ends up with too much fiber and time on her hands. If you have ever seen coiled ceramics and basketry, this piece was created along those lines. Then the gold, chain stitch embroidery (barely visible, sorry), and beads were added. The chains of turquoise beads culminate in a beautiful art glass bead. The upper lip is button hole stitched. The bottom is concave and has a silver charm stating, "Made for You". The size is 4"x4"x4" , and is for sale for $75+sh. Contact the artist through your comments, to purchase.
